Trail de la Mixteca Oaxaqueña is run in San Mateo Tlapiltepec (Oaxaca), the village of Ricardo Mejía, the best Mexican trail runner in history, who organises it. The 36K (1,700 m of climbing) links three Mixtec communities, San Mateo Tlapiltepec, Santiago Tepetlapa and San Miguel Tulancingo; the 22K (900 m) is the selective race for Sierre-Zinal, and a 12K (600 m) and a 3.8 km vertical (800 m) complete it. It comes with a weekend of Mixtec music, dances and food.
